The Ogun Magistrate’s Court 1 sitting in Sagamu Local Government Area, presided over by Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun, has adjourned the trial of the Lexus SUV driver involved in former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s road accident to June 2, 2026.

This marks the third adjournment of the case to give the prosecution time to file an amended charge to the existing case.

The defendant, Adeniyi Mobolaji, faces four counts, including dangerous driving resulting in death.

He is also accused of reckless and negligent driving in violation of Section 6(1) of the Act, as well as driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm, and damaging property under Section 7(1) of the same Act.

He was further accused of driving without a valid national driver’s licence, in violation of Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.

Ruling on the prosecution’s request for an adjournment, Magistrate Somefun granted the application and fixed June 2 for proper hearing, with no objection from the defence counsel.

Speaking after the proceedings, defence counsel Abiodun Olalekan said the adjournment was aimed at ensuring fairness and justice for all parties involved.

The 46-year-old driver was involved in the fatal crash that claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025.

The Lexus SUV reportedly crashed into a stationary truck, leaving Anthony Joshua and the driver with minor injuries.

The boxing champion was later discharged from hospital after doctors confirmed he was stable and fit to continue his recovery at home.

The deaths of Ghami and Ayodele caused shockwaves within the global boxing community.

Both men were widely regarded as key members of Joshua’s training and support team.

Their bodies were later repatriated to the United Kingdom, where a funeral prayer was held on January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque.
