President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on his re-election, describing the outcome as an “affirmation of visionary leadership” and pledging closer collaboration between the Federal Government and Anambra State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of Saturday’s off-cycle governorship election after he swept all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
In a statement personally signed and released on Sunday, President Tinubu commended the people of Anambra, the security agencies, and INEC for the peaceful and successful conduct of the poll. He also urged Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to work with his opponents for the continued progress of the state.
“Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress Anambra has made under his guidance,” Tinubu said. “He has demonstrated that knowledge is power and that academic principles can be effectively applied in governance, undergirding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of resources.”
The President also praised Soludo for his innovative approach to governance, noting that under his leadership, Anambra is living up to its motto as the *Light of the Nation*. Tinubu recalled his visit to the state in May, when he inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration, describing the experience as “remarkable and indelible.
Assuring Soludo of his unwavering support, Tinubu said, “I look forward to continued collaboration between Anambra and the Federal Government. The victory of the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance again demonstrates the vitality of our democracy, where hard work and progressive leadership are rewarded.”
The President also commended the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and his team for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent election. “I charge the commission to maintain these standards and further improve its performance to strengthen and deepen our electoral system,” he said.
Soludo’s resounding victory extends APGA’s two-decade dominance of Anambra politics, making him the third governor in the state’s history after Peter Obi and Willie Obiano to win a second term.
Channels Television and other media outlets reported that the governor won by a landslide, polling over 420,000 votes against his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With his victory, Governor Soludo’s tenure, which runs until March 2026, has gained renewed momentum and fresh political validation.
