The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting consumers against the proliferation of substandard, fake, unsafe products as well as unsatisfactory services across the state.
The General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo Esq., stated this while guesting on “The Conversation” programme of the Lagos State Television on Wednesday, emphasizing that the circulation of substandard goods poses serious risks to public health, safety, and the economy, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He also said that this is part of the Agency’s statutory mandate, adding that the agency will continue to intensify market surveillance, enforcement operations, and collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies to ensure that only quality and certified products are sold to consumers in Lagos State.
Speaking on the renewed drive, the Agency emphasized that erring manufacturers, distributors, and traders found dealing in substandard products will face appropriate sanctions in line with existing consumer protection laws and regulations.
The General Manager urged consumers to remain vigilant and protect themselves by reporting cases of substandard products, unfair trade practices, and other consumer rights violations through the Agency’s official complaints channels, such as online or by visiting their offices near them.
He further added that the agency will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the value for money campaign in line with the State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
