Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to clearly spell out its demands from the minister.

Olayinka made the statement on Monday as workers of the FCT Administration returned to work despite the NLC’s planned strike action.

Earlier, the NLC Chairman in the FCT, Comrade Stephen Knabayi, had directed all affiliate unions in the territory to appear in union attire for a mass protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

It will be recalled that FCTA workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) commenced an industrial action on January 9 over unmet demands and unpaid allowances.

Last week, Minister Wike warned workers who failed to resume duty on Monday, stating that the FCTA had already addressed some of their grievances.

Reacting, Olayinka mocked the NLC, claiming that FCTA workers had ignored the directives of both JUAC and the Congress.

In a post on X, he wrote: “Today is Monday, February 2, 2026. Workers in the FCTA and FCDA are at work. They are not listening to JUAC and NLC.

“But the NLC is still mobilising for a protest tomorrow in support of FCTA workers who are already at their duty posts as I write.”

“NLC is asking people to leave their own workplaces tomorrow to protest on behalf of FCTA workers who will already be on duty, doing their jobs.

“In the end, NLC will have to clearly tell Nigerians what it wants from Wike and the FCT.”
