TARABA GOVERNOR RELEASES ₦5BN FOR RETIREES’ GRATUITIES AND DEATH BENEFITS

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved and released ₦5 billion to settle outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees and beneficiaries in the state.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Barr. Zainab Usman Jalingo, and shared on the state government’s X handle.
The statement noted that the funds are intended to clear long-standing gratuity and death benefit obligations to retirees and families of deceased public servants across Taraba.

“Following the release, the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning has scheduled the screening exercise for eligible beneficiaries to begin on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters. The exercise will include 2015 retirees, as well as a final mop-up of outstanding beneficiaries from the 2013 and 2014 cohorts, enabling immediate and transparent disbursement,” the statement said.
Stakeholders, labour leaders, pensioners, and families of deceased workers have praised Governor Kefas, describing the ₦5 billion release as a milestone in responsible governance and a decisive step toward restoring dignity to public service in Taraba State.
The commissioner added that the payment forms part of the Kefas administration’s ongoing efforts to address inherited pension liabilities and enhance workers’ welfare in the state.
She added that the state government remains dedicated to fulfilling its commitments to workers and retirees while reinforcing public trust in governance.
