United States Congressman Riley Moore has pledged continued American support for Plateau State, particularly in addressing security and economic challenges, following a meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang during the governor’s trade and security mission to the United States.

Moore described the engagement with the Plateau governor as “productive and forward-looking” in a post on X, stating, “It was an honor to meet with the governor of Plateau State in Nigeria, Caleb Mutfwang. We had a meaningful and productive conversation about deepening the ties between our two countries.”

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in the areas of security, economic development, and broader bilateral relations. Moore reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to working with Nigeria to confront shared challenges, particularly the persecution of Christians and other vulnerable groups.

“I remain committed to working with the Nigerian government in coordination and cooperation to address these security and economic challenges, especially the persecution our Christian brothers and sisters face,” he said, while commending Mutfwang for his efforts to protect Christians and other vulnerable populations in Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt.

The Plateau State Government, in a statement on Tuesday, said Mutfwang is on a strategic economic, development, and security mission in the US aimed at attracting investment and strengthening bilateral cooperation. The governor is expected to engage key institutions, including the United States Development Finance Corporation, the United States Export-Import Bank, and senior officials of the US Department of State.

The government noted that the engagements are part of ongoing efforts to deepen international partnerships and mobilise support for development and security initiatives in Plateau State.

Moore had previously indicated growing security cooperation between the two countries. In December 2025, he announced that Nigeria and the United States were close to finalising a “strategic security framework” to tackle terrorism, while in January 2026, he highlighted the establishment of a US–Nigeria working group as a critical step toward addressing the country’s security challenges.
