KOGI SHUTS SCHOOLS TEMPORARILY OVER SECURITY INTELLIGENCE

The Kogi State Government has announced the temporary closure of schools across the state as a preventive security measure aimed at safeguarding pupils, students, and teachers.
The development was confirmed in a message to members by the Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State Chapter, Reuben Jimoh, who disclosed that the state government had brought forward the midterm break. According to him, the break will now function as an emergency lockdown and will remain in effect until February 16, 2026.
Speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, explained that the decision was taken out of responsibility rather than panic, stressing that the government opted for a proactive approach based on credible intelligence.
“The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions remains non-negotiable. This administration will always prioritize lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” Fanwo said.
He added that Governor Usman Ododo has directed all relevant agencies to put necessary measures in place to enable schools to resume academic activities as soon as it is safe, with minimal disruption to the academic calendar.
Fanwo also commended security agencies for providing timely and actionable intelligence, noting that the collaboration underscores the effectiveness of Kogi State’s security framework.
Reassuring residents, the commissioner said the government remains fully in control of the situation, with security operatives working round the clock to identify, locate, and decisively dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.
