The Lagos State Government has introduced a traffic diversion plan to enable the Federal Ministry of Works to perform repairs on the damaged asphalt sections of the Apongbon Bridge and the ramp/service lane connecting Inner Marina to the Apongbon Bridge.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, posted on X on Wednesday, the rehabilitation works will start on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and are scheduled to last for six weeks, concluding on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

He explained that the repairs will be carried out in stages, beginning with the service lane and then proceeding to the main carriageway of the bridge.

He added, “To ensure the safety of motorists and facilitate the efficient execution of the works, certain sections of the affected roads will be temporarily closed, while traffic will be redirected through alternative routes.”

“For inbound traffic during the rehabilitation of the Apongbon service lane, motorists from Inner Marina are advised to proceed to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout, connect to Adeniji Adele Road, continue through Ebute Ero, and use the ramp to Apongbon/Eko Bridge. Traffic from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island will continue through Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge.

“When repair works move to the inbound main carriageway of Apongbon Bridge, motorists from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island are to ramp down at the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout by UBA, proceed through Inner Marina, connect with the Apongbon Bridge service lane, and continue onto Eko Bridge,” he said

According to him, upon completion of inbound repairs, construction activities will shift to the outbound section of the bridge.

“During the rehabilitation of the outbound service lane on Chapel Street, motorists from Eko Bridge heading to Inner Marina will be diverted through Ebute Ero Ramp, Adeniji Adele Road, and the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

“However, traffic from Eko Bridge to Outer Marina, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will be maintained through movement on Apongbon Bridge,” he added.

He pointed out that during the rehabilitation of the outbound main carriageway, motorists heading to Outer Marina, CMS, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will be diverted through Ebute Ero Ramp, Leventis, and Outer Marina/CMS, while traffic bound for Inner Marina will ramp down through Chapel Street to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

The government urged motorists to exercise patience and comply with traffic management measures put in place during the period of the repairs, adding that traffic management personnel will be deployed to guide road users and minimise inconvenience.
