The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to begin discussions with Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, over a possible extension of his contract following approval from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

Chelle, who assumed the role in 2025, has reportedly indicated his readiness to continue with the national team, reaffirming his deep affection for Nigerian football. The coach has often spoken of his long-standing admiration for the Super Eagles, noting that his passion for the team dates back to the 1990s when he first “fell in love” with Nigeria’s football heritage.

The planned talks come amid growing speculation over Chelle’s future, with reports suggesting interest from the Tunisian Football Federation, which was said to have made enquiries about his availability. The NFF’s move to initiate extension negotiations is widely seen as a strategic effort to ensure continuity and fend off external interest in the coach.

Since taking charge, Chelle has earned plaudits for instilling resilience, tactical discipline, and renewed confidence in the Super Eagles, qualities that have resonated with fans and football analysts alike.

His tenure was further boosted by Nigeria’s strong showing at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third, reinforcing calls for stability on the team’s technical bench.
