Chief Francis Igwe, father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, has been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Ikwo Local Government Area.

The abduction reportedly occurred on Sunday morning while Elder Igwe was en route to church in Ndufu-Alike community. According to local sources, armed men on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle, forcibly removed him, and took him away to an undisclosed location.

The incident has stirred fear in the community amid growing concerns over insecurity in the area.

Confirming the event, Ikwo LGA Chairman Sunday Nwankwo stated that the council is working closely with security agencies to gather intelligence and secure the safe release of the victim.

Attempts to reach Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu for official comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of reporting.
