DAMES HUB WELLNESS INITIATIVE LAUNCHES ALAKE’S PEARLS PLATFORM, EMPOWERS GIRLS IN IBADAN

Dames Hub Wellness Initiative has flagged off ‘Alake’s Pearls, an initiative designed to empower adolescent girls with knowledge on menstrual health, mental wellness and confidence building in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The programme was launched on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at St. Louis Convent Boarding House Chapter, Mokola, under the auspices of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, CFR, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland.
Speaking at the event, the Founder of Dames Hub Wellness Initiative, Mrs. Valentina Ibirogba-Unaji, delivered an insightful session on menstrual health education, where she sensitised the students on proper hygiene practices, addressed common misconceptions surrounding menstruation and encouraged open, stigma-free conversations.
Drawing from her personal experience as a former student of the school, she inspired the girls to embrace self-confidence, build resilience and take pride in their identity, stressing that no societal limitations should define their growth or potential.
Also speaking, a board member of the initiative, Mr. Segun Idowu, engaged the students on mental and emotional wellness, highlighting the importance of understanding one’s emotions, managing peer pressure and maintaining a healthy mindset.
He further emphasised the need for self-awareness, positive thinking and seeking guidance when necessary, noting that mental wellness remains a critical component of overall personal development and success.
Other sessions at the programme focused on mother-daughter engagement, self-confidence and identity, as well as the importance of safe conversations and proper guidance for adolescent girls.
The flag-off also formed part of activities marking the founder’s 50th birthday, which was celebrated earlier in February.
As part of the initiative, students were presented with gifts and other essential items to support their well-being.
Speaking to Hotjist, some of the students expressed appreciation to the founder for her contributions towards their development and the growth of the school.
Alake’s Pearls is a culturally grounded empowerment platform focused on bridging knowledge, dignity and intergenerational connection, while equipping young girls with the tools required to navigate womanhood with confidence and self-awareness.
