TINUBU HOLDS SEPARATE MEETINGS WITH GANDUJE, BADARU AMID DEFECTIONS

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held separate meetings with former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meetings come amid shifting political alignments following the defection of Rabiu Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He was joined by key allies, including Nasiru Gawuna and Aminu Gwarzo, along with several supporters.
Ganduje was seen leaving the State House around 4:15 pm, while Badaru departed about 15 minutes later, indicating separate consultations with the President. Both declined to comment on the purpose of their visits.
Ganduje, who served as APC national chairman from August 2023 to July 2025, was succeeded by Nentawe Yilwatda, elected at the party’s 4th National Convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja. He previously served as governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.
Badaru, a former governor of Jigawa State, recently resigned as Minister of Defence in Tinubu’s cabinet. Reports suggest that some of his loyalists in Jigawa may also be considering defection to the ADC amid internal party tensions involving Governor Umar Namadi.
The visits are believed to be connected to ongoing political realignments within the APC following its national convention and the wave of defections in Kano and Jigawa states.
