Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated ₦150 million to the families of Lt. Col. Umar Farouq, Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu, and Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko, who were killed by Boko Haram insurgents in the state.

The donation, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by Abdulrahman Bundi, Senior Technical Assistant to the governor on Print and Digital Communication, forms part of Governor Zulum’s ongoing support for families of fallen heroes and personnel wounded in action during counter-insurgency operations across Borno.

The statement said, “As part of efforts to personally identify with the bereaved families, Governor Zulum, on Wednesday, visited the homes of the late Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, Lieutenant Colonel Salihu Iliyasu, and Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko.”

Bundi added that the governor’s first stop was the family of Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu in Abuja, where he was warmly received by the deceased officer’s wives, Na’ima and Rakiya.

He extended his condolences and honored the officer’s service to the nation.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I wish to convey my deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. Late Lt. Col. Iliyasu was a dedicated and committed servant of the nation, and his contributions will always be remembered,” Governor Zulum said.

“He then presented a cheque of ₦50 million to the family, ” the statement noted.

Governor Zulum later visited Niger and Kano States, where he presented ₦50 million each to the families of the late Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko and Lt. Col. Umar Farouq, according to Abdulrahman Bundi, the Senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communication.

He lauded the fallen officers for their bravery, patriotism, and sacrifices in the ongoing counterinsurgency operations.

Bundi added that the governor announced plans to visit families of other officers who were killed or missing in action, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of personnel who gave their lives defending the nation.

Beyond military and security personnel, Zulum has also assisted families of volunteer forces killed in action, including offering scholarships for their orphaned children.

“He prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased in Aljannatul Firdaus and for God to grant their families strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Bundi said.

The governor was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of Government House, Barrister Mustapha Ali Busguma, elder statesman Dr. Musa Inuwa Kubo, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, Engr. Kaka Shettima, and Dr. Aminu Chiroma.
