POLICE ARREST 13 SUSPECTED CULTISTS, DRUG PEDDLERS IN ILORIN RAID

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 13 suspected cultists, thugs and drug peddlers during a coordinated security operation in Ilorin.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects were apprehended during a raid carried out at Tanke Junction in the Ilorin metropolis.
The police disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects, including 24 motorcycles and different illicit substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine popularly known as “ice,” Colorado, tramadol and other hard drugs.
The command stated that the suspects were allegedly involved in cult-related activities, street violence, illegal drug trafficking and other criminal acts capable of threatening public peace and security in the area.
According to the statement, Tanke Junction has over time gained notoriety as a criminal hotspot within the Ilorin metropolis.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects used the location as a gathering point for drug peddling, recruitment of youths into unlawful societies, intimidation of residents and planning of criminal activities within Ilorin and its environs,” the statement read.
The police further disclosed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network linked to the suspects.
The command added that the suspects currently in custody would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
