UNN BLASTS ALEX ONYIA OVER ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO EMBARRASS INSTITUTION

A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has reportedly lost his life after allegedly being beaten by fellow students over claims of phone theft.

The incident was said to have occurred at the Eni Njoku male hostel within the institution.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased had not been confirmed.

According to a Facebook post shared on Thursday by social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, the student was allegedly dragged out and severely assaulted by other hostel residents, leaving him critically injured.

“UNN Student Dies After Beating at Eni Njoku Hostel.

“A tragic incident was reported at Eni Njoku male hostel in UNN, where a student allegedly died after being attacked by fellow hostel occupants over a suspected phone theft.

“The student was dragged out and beaten, resulting in serious injuries. Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.

“Authorities of @University of Nigeria Nsukka will now act as though nothing happened inside #UNN,” the post read.

At the time of this report, the management of the university had yet to release an official statement on the incident.

When contacted, the acting Public Relations Officer of the institution, Inya Agha Egwu, said he was currently in Lagos and could not immediately provide details.

However, a senior lecturer at the university confirmed the incident and described it as shocking.

“Yes, the incident happened. It is deeply disturbing that such an event could occur within a university community. Those responsible must face punishment,” the lecturer said.
