A devastating fire outbreak on Tuesday swept through parts of a popular market in Kwara State, destroying several shops and goods valued at millions of naira.

The incident, which happened in Ilorin, caused panic among traders as the fire reportedly spread quickly before it could be brought under control by emergency responders.

Eyewitnesses said the blaze began in one of the locked shops before spreading to nearby stalls, destroying fabrics, food items, and other wares.

“We suddenly started hearing people shouting ‘fire, fire!’ and everything quickly got out of hand. People were running helplessly,” an eyewitness recounted.

The exact cause of the fire has not been officially confirmed, although some traders suspect it may have been triggered by an electrical fault.

Fire service officials, alongside market leaders, were said to have worked to prevent the fire from spreading further to other sections of the market.
