The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has declared his intention to run for the governorship of Oyo State.

Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said he will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the declaration on Tuesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, in the presence of party leaders and prominent members, including Chief Kunle Sanda, Chief Isiaka Alimi, and Chief Wale Sanusi, among others.

Speaking at the event, Adelabu said his decision to join the race was driven by his belief that Oyo State deserves greater dividends of democracy.

He pledged to implement policies and projects aimed at improving the living standards of residents across the state.

“Firstly, I want to thank Almighty Allah. We started this journey in 2019, and I believe 2027 will be our time. We also remember our past leaders and former governors of Oyo State who are late. I appreciate all the leaders present here.

“This declaration goes beyond just an announcement; it is a summary of my manifesto. Today is a day to reclaim Oyo State for genuine progress.

“I stand before you with humility to declare my intention to contest the governorship election under our great party, the APC, in 2027. I also appreciate the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the Renewed Hope agenda.

“Why am I contesting again? It is because I believe Oyo State deserves more—security, stability, and meaningful development. Governance goes beyond rhetoric.

“I am contesting because I have the experience and exposure to build a stronger, economically advanced Oyo State where good governance is felt at the grassroots,” he said.
