The Nigerian Navy has handed over five individuals suspected of involvement with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and other related criminal groups to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State for further investigation.
According to a statement signed by Naval Director of Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, the suspects were arrested by personnel of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, operating under the Forward Operating Base, Amiyi, following intelligence linking them to alleged criminal activities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Preliminary investigations reportedly identified one of the suspects as a coordinator of the group’s activities in the affected communities, while others were said to be members of the network.
The findings also revealed locations allegedly used for meetings and recruitment.
The suspects were subsequently transferred to the DSS in line with inter-agency cooperation protocols for further investigation and appropriate action.
The Navy said the operation underscores its continued commitment to internal security, counter-criminality efforts, and the fight against threats to national security, while reaffirming its collaboration with other security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the country.
