Street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was disqualified in his celebrity boxing rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha on Friday after walking out of the ring before the end of the opening round.
The bout, tagged “Unfinished Business,” was held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, as a rematch of their controversial first encounter, which Okocha had maintained was unfairly awarded in Portable’s favour.
Portable appeared to have the upper hand before the contest degenerated into a wrestling-like scuffle, with the referee struggling to separate the two fighters.
The opening round was eventually brought to an end as security personnel and bodyguards stepped in to restore order.
Amid the confusion, Portable walked out of the ring before officials could restart the contest, drawing boos from spectators, including fans in the VIP section who had gathered for the highly anticipated showdown.
Although he was later persuaded to return, officials disqualified him, handing victory to Okocha.
Speaking backstage before the fight while holding his son, Portable had said, “I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family.”
The defeat marked a reversal of fortunes for the singer, who won their first meeting and had declared during the final weigh-in that he remained the better fighter.
