ACCORD RAISES CONCERNS OVER ALLEGED OSUN ELECTION MATERIALS THEFT PLOT

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has alleged a plot to steal sensitive election materials ahead of the August 15 governorship election, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent any disruption to the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s state chairman, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, claimed it had received credible intelligence indicating that some opposition elements were planning to compromise the election by stealing and concealing sensitive electoral materials.
According to the party, the alleged plan is intended to delay or prevent the deployment of election materials to selected polling units, potentially disenfranchising thousands of eligible voters and undermining the credibility of the governorship poll.
Accord called on INEC to strengthen security and accountability in the storage, movement and distribution of sensitive election materials, warning that any failure to safeguard the process would amount to a serious breach of the commission’s constitutional responsibility.
The party also urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other relevant bodies, to investigate the alleged plot and take proactive measures before election day.
It stressed that preventing electoral disruption would be more effective than responding after the damage had been done.
Accord further vowed to resist, through lawful and democratic means, any attempt to steal, divert or conceal election materials with the aim of disenfranchising voters or manipulating the outcome of the election.
The party also appealed to residents of Osun State to remain peaceful, vigilant and law-abiding, while encouraging them to report any suspicious handling or movement of election materials to the appropriate authorities.
It described the August 15 governorship election as a crucial test of democracy in the state and urged all stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and credible electoral process.
