ADELEKE ALLEGES EFCC PLOT TO FREEZE OSUN GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTS AHEAD OF GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze the state government’s bank accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, Adeleke claimed he had received credible intelligence indicating that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to freeze all accounts belonging to the Osun State Government, as well as those of top government officials.
The governor described the alleged move as unlawful, arguing that it was intended to cripple government operations in the days leading up to the governorship poll.
He maintained that the EFCC has no legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government, insisting there was no legal justification for such an action.
Adeleke warned that any attempt to freeze the state’s accounts would amount to a serious abuse of power and could disrupt governance and the delivery of public services.
The allegation comes ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, where Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, is seeking re-election against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor has repeatedly accused political opponents of attempting to undermine his administration ahead of the election.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not responded to the allegations, although efforts were said to be ongoing to obtain the agency’s official reaction.
