Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has ordered a statewide emergency environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The directive follows heavy rainfall and strong winds that left large quantities of debris scattered across city centres and major towns in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Technical Adviser on Media to the Governor, Chief Solomon Iorpev.
He stated that the sanitation exercise will take place between 7 am and 9 am, adding that all local government chairmen, relevant agencies, and enforcement authorities are expected to ensure full compliance without exception.
Chief Iorpev advised residents to clean their surroundings, clear drainages, and properly dispose of waste within the designated period.
He further noted that movement will be restricted during the exercise, except for those on essential duties.
He also urged chairmen and residents of Makurdi, Tarkaa, Gboko, Ushongo, and Vandeikya local government areas to take particular note of the directive.
