Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Isa Isiaka, a father of 11 children and husband of two wives, to 20 years in prison for deliberately failing to report Boko Haram activities to the Federal Government.
Isiaka was convicted on Monday after he pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Following the reading of the charges, he immediately admitted guilt without delay.
The prosecution, led by AGF Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), argued that Isiaka withheld critical information that could have enabled the prompt arrest of members of the outlawed Boko Haram group.
During sentencing, the defendant appealed for leniency, citing that he was a first-time offender and a family man with 11 children and two wives.
However, Justice Nyako dismissed the plea and imposed a 20-year prison sentence without the option of a fine.
