Nigerian Army Airlifts 352 Personnel Under COAS Welfare Flight Programme
The Nigerian Army has airlifted 352 military personnel into and out of the North-East under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Welfare Flight programme aimed at supporting troops engaged in counter-insurgency operations under Operation HADIN KAI.
The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the first COAS Welfare Flight for August 2026 was conducted on August 1 using a chartered ValueJet aircraft.
According to the report, 177 personnel were flown into the Operation HADIN KAI theatre, while 175 others were transported out, bringing the total number of troops moved during the exercise to 352.
Makama stated that the latest operation increased the cumulative number of personnel transported under the COAS Welfare Flight initiative to 34,466.
The welfare flight programme was introduced to enhance troop welfare by facilitating timely deployment, personnel rotation and movement to and from operational areas, thereby improving operational efficiency.
According to the report, military authorities confirmed that the airlift operation was completed successfully without any security or logistical challenges.
The COAS Welfare Flight initiative remains one of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to boost troop morale and improve personnel welfare while supporting ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
