A significant police deployment, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force’s Area F Division, was seen on Thursday as protesters started gathering at the Ikeja underbridge in Lagos to commemorate June 12 Democracy Day.

Civil society groups and pro-democracy activists were among those assembling to express dissatisfaction with the deteriorating economic situation and escalating insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Although the protest had not officially begun at the time of reporting, security personnel remained on high alert.
