The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday accepted responsibility for the continued presence of cows roaming the streets of Abuja, offering an apology over the situation.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike explained that roads constructed by the FCT Administration are selected based on recommendations from residents of the capital city.

He noted that the road projects have played a significant role in improving access and helping to reduce insecurity across the territory.

The minister also disclosed that he would be commissioning several projects alongside the President as part of activities marking his third year in office.

“I apologise that cows are still roaming the streets of Abuja up till now, and I take full responsibility for that,” Wike said.

He added, “These projects are not limited to the city centre alone but extend to satellite towns, covering roads, water supply, and residences for public officers.

“We do not arbitrarily decide which roads to construct. The people identify and nominate the roads that will be most beneficial to them, and this has helped in improving security and providing easier access to their farmlands.”
