FG BOOSTS SUPER FALCONS’ MORALE WITH WAFCON VICTORY REWARDS

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday formally presented the Federal Government’s promised rewards to members of the Super Falcons for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The presentation took place in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s opening fixture against Malawi at the 2026 WAFCON, where the defending champions begin their quest for another continental title.
The NFF announced the development in a post on its official X account, stating that NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi presented the rewards on behalf of the Federal Government.

The rewards include a cash gift of $100,000 for each player, which has already been paid into their individual bank accounts, and a three-bedroom apartment for each player under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate scheme. Members of the technical crew are also expected to receive similar rewards.
President Bola Tinubu had announced the incentives shortly after Nigeria lifted the 2025 WAFCON trophy, alongside the conferment of national honours on the players.
However, the presentation of the housing allocations was delayed for about a year due to administrative procedures.
Last week, Dikko explained that the formal presentation was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the team’s gathering in Morocco for the 2026 WAFCON, saying it would serve as a morale booster ahead of the tournament.
He also confirmed that all players had received their $100,000 cash rewards after the completion of the required administrative processes.
The Super Falcons head into the 2026 tournament as defending champions and record 10-time winners. They will face tournament debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match before taking on Zambia and Egypt in their remaining group fixtures.
The competition, running from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco, also serves as Africa’s qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically, while one additional team will secure a place through the intercontinental play-offs.
