FOUR KILLED, TWO INJURED IN SUSPECTED CULT SHOOTING IN ILORIN

Four persons have been confirmed dead, while two others sustained injuries following a suspected cult-related shooting attack at the Post Office area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday when armed hoodlums invaded a shanty bamboo bar along the railway line and opened fire on people gathered at the location before fleeing the scene.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday, saying operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and evacuated the victims to the Police Clinic for treatment.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, four of the victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently receiving medical attention.

“Police operatives promptly responded to the distress call and rushed the victims to the Police Clinic. Regrettably, four of the victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently receiving treatment,” she said.

The police disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the attack is linked to cult-related activities, adding that two suspected members of a notorious cult group have already been arrested in connection with the incident.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the incident is cult-related. Comprehensive investigations led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious and deadly cult group linked to the attack,” the statement added.

The Command further stated that tactical, intelligence, and covert operatives have been deployed to track down other suspects involved in the attack, assuring that all those responsible would be brought to justice.

Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless act of violence that poses a serious threat to public peace and safety.

He assured residents that the Command would not relent until all perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

The police also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery, while urging the public to remain calm and provide useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
