GUNMEN ABDUCT DANGOTE CEMENT SENIOR DRIVER IN OGUN

Gunmen have abducted Usman Umar, a senior driver with Dangote Cement Company, Ibese Plant, Ogun State, popularly known as “Baba Olowo,” in Yewa North Local Government Area.

Umar was reportedly kidnapped around midnight on Wednesday at Ajibawo Village, near Ijako-Orile, shortly after returning from work.

Sources said the victim was accosted by three armed men as he alighted from his motorcycle in front of his residence.

The assailants allegedly dragged him into a nearby bush while firing shots into the air to frighten residents and discourage any attempt to intervene.

Following the incident, security operatives reportedly launched efforts to locate Umar and arrest the abductors.

A senior official of Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant, who confirmed the incident but spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to address the media, said details of the incident were still unclear.

He said the company learnt of the abduction after a Baale in the community reported the incident at the Ibese Plant.

The official added that law enforcement agencies were expected to be working to secure Umar’s release and reunite him with his family.

Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, did not connect.

It remained unclear at the time of filing whether the abductors had contacted Umar’s family or made any demands.
