Barcelona have reached agreements to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City and bring back Portuguese full-back João Cancelo, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reported on Sunday that Barcelona had reached a deal with Manchester City for Rodri, with the Premier League club giving the green light to the Catalan side’s final bid for the former Ballon d’Or winner.

Rodri is set to sign a four-year contract with Barcelona, keeping him at the club until June 2030. The midfielder’s move is expected to be finalised this week, with Barça already planning his travel and medical arrangements.

Reuters reports that Manchester City accepted a bid worth £65.4 million ($88.47 million) for the Spain international.

The 30-year-old joined Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and went on to make 298 appearances for the club, winning 12 major trophies, including four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona are also set to complete the return of Cancelo after reaching an agreement with Al-Hilal to terminate the Portuguese defender’s contract.

Romano said Cancelo has been authorised to travel early next week after agreeing all terms with Barcelona since June and is now ready to sign.

The 32-year-old previously spent time at Barcelona on loan and is now set for a permanent return to the Catalan club after his contract with Al-Hilal was terminated.

The double move represents a major reinforcement for Barcelona ahead of the new season, with Rodri strengthening the midfield and Cancelo adding experience and versatility to the defence.
