Nollywood actress and media personality, Toke Makinwa, has spoken about financial imbalance in relationships and marriage, expressing her views on the importance of dating within one’s financial level.
She noted that she supports the idea of people dating within their financial bracket, explaining that relationships can become complicated when one partner is significantly above or below the other financially, particularly for men.
Speaking on a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she said some men often pursue women who are financially above their means, only to later describe such women as materialistic.
According to her, “I am a big believer in dating within your age and within your class. That way, there will not be stories that touch. You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford.”
She further added that financial success often reveals rather than changes a person’s true character, noting that some women who support men during their struggling phase are later treated poorly once those men become successful.
