The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has told universities in the country not to give admission letters to students applying for their programs. They said this is not something the universities are allowed to do.

The registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, stated this when he received a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, which paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

According to the registrar, JAMB is the only organization officially allowed to give out real admission letters to students who want to enter any tertiary institutions in Nigeria, like universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Prof. Aina said the funny thing is that when students see a document from an institution that says they got admission, they think it’s real.

Because of this, he told the universities that did this bad thing to stop, and said they should make sure students get the correct documents from JAMB.

He also reminded everyone that the Federal Ministry of Education clearly said all admissions must be done through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), and anything done outside of that is not allowed and not valid.

So, no institution can use their own letters instead of the official JAMB admission letter that a student gets after they accept their offer on CAPS.

He added that only admissions through this system are recognized and will be accepted for things like the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among other things.
