JIGAWA APPROVES STATE NUTRITION COMMITTEE TO TACKLE MALNUTRITION

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the establishment of a State Standing Committee on Nutrition as part of efforts to strengthen inter-ministerial collaboration and address malnutrition across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, announced the decision while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Dutse.
Musa said the committee was created to enhance the nutritional wellbeing of residents through a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach involving relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
According to him, the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to improving nutrition, particularly among vulnerable groups such as women and children.
He explained that the committee would foster collaboration among government institutions while ensuring sustained attention to nutrition-related issues across the state.
The commissioner added that the body would provide strategic leadership, policy coordination and oversight for the planning and implementation of nutrition programmes aimed at improving public health outcomes.
Musa disclosed that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Kainuwa, will serve as chairman of the committee.
Other members include the Commissioners for Water Resources, Environment, Local Government, Women Affairs and Budget, alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Nutrition and the Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency.
He also announced that the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Agency will serve as the committee’s secretary.
According to Musa, the committee will coordinate planning, promote efficient use of resources and ensure the effective implementation of nutrition policies and interventions designed to reduce malnutrition and improve the overall health of residents across the state.
