US EMBASSY, LAGOS CONSULATE ANNOUNCE REMAINING 2026 HOLIDAY CLOSURES

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have released their schedule of remaining public holiday closures for 2026, with both missions set to suspend routine operations on eight occasions between August and December.

According to the schedule published on the US Embassy and Consulate’s website, consular and other regular public services will not be available on the designated dates, although emergency assistance for US citizens will continue throughout the holiday periods.

The first closure will be on Tuesday, August 25, in observance of Eid-El-Maulud, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria.

The diplomatic missions will also close on Monday, September 7, to mark Labour Day in the United States, followed by Thursday, October 1, for Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Operations will again be suspended on Monday, October 12, in observance of Columbus Day in the United States.

In November, the embassy and consulate will close on Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day, and on Thursday, November 26, to observe Thanksgiving Day.

The final holiday closures for the year will be on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, observed in both Nigeria and the United States, and Saturday, December 26, for Boxing Day, a public holiday in Nigeria.

The embassy advised visa applicants and individuals seeking passport, notarial and other consular services to plan their appointments around the holiday schedule to avoid disruptions.
