KANYINSOLA AJAYI TURNS PROFESSIONAL, SIGNS DEAL WITH ADIDAS

Nigerian sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi has officially turned professional after securing a sponsorship deal with Adidas, following a remarkable season that has seen him emerge as one of the fastest sprinters in the world.
The 21-year-old announced the partnership on his X account on Thursday, describing the deal as the beginning of a new phase in his athletics career.
“I am grateful to God to finally announce that I am officially embarking on the next chapter of my journey, continuing my professional track and field career with Adidas,” he wrote.
The announcement comes less than two weeks after Ajayi won a bronze medal in the men’s 100m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

He clocked 9.90 seconds in the final to become Nigeria’s first male 100m medallist at the Commonwealth Games in 20 years.
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme won gold in a Games-record 9.83 seconds, while Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy claimed silver in 9.85 seconds.
Ajayi had earlier booked his place in the final after winning his semi-final in 9.94 seconds before recording another sub-10-second performance in the medal race.
Born in September 2004, Ajayi is a two-time African U20 champion and an African Championships silver medallist.
He also lowered the Nigerian 100m record to 9.84 seconds earlier this season. His fastest time of the year is a wind-assisted 9.72 seconds, while 9.84 seconds remains his legal personal best.
The young sprinter has further recorded two Diamond League victories this season and currently ranks fifth in the world in the men’s 100m, according to World Athletics.
Having made the transition to professional athletics, Ajayi is now expected to focus on further development as he targets success at the World Championships, Olympic Games and other major international competitions.
