KARA BRIDGE REHABILITATION: REPAIR WORK BEGINS SEPTEMBER 8

The Federal Government will commence the rehabilitation of damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the development is in line with an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The repair work, initially scheduled to begin in August, was suspended to allow for a review of the traffic management plan following public concerns over the short notice and the need to minimise disruption along the busy corridor.

The two-week rehabilitation, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, involves the replacement of deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge.

The intervention is aimed at improving road safety, preserving the structural integrity of the bridge and ensuring smoother traffic flow along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The rehabilitation is expected to run from September 8 to September 22.

To minimise the impact on traffic, the Lagos State Government said one half of the affected section would be closed at a time, while motorists would use the remaining open half on an alternating basis.

The state government advised motorists travelling along the corridor to plan their journeys ahead and allow for possible delays.

It also appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic managers and other relevant authorities throughout the rehabilitation period.

The government expressed hope that motorists’ cooperation would enable the repair work to be completed within the scheduled two-week period.
