Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has chosen Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, replacing the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida.
The decision was announced on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, according to a statement shared on the state government’s X handle.
Argungu explained that the change followed professional legal advice regarding the eligibility of the incumbent deputy governor.
He said the decision was made to ensure the governor’s ticket complies with relevant legal requirements ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the decision was reached with Tafida’s understanding and consent, stressing that there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy.
Argungu subsequently announced Augie as the new running mate to Idris for the 2027 governorship election.
He called on politicians, APC members and supporters across the state to accept the development and work together for the success of the party in the 2027 election.
Governor Idris also dismissed any suggestion of a disagreement between him and Tafida.
The governor appealed for continued unity, support and cooperation as his administration pursued further development across Kebbi State.
Augie is a former Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu and hails from Augie Local Government Area of the state.
