The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has organised a three-day digital marketing training aimed at equipping market women, men, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), young adults, artisans and other entrepreneurs with practical digital skills to improve their businesses and expand their global reach in the modern economy.

The training, held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Women Development Centre, Agege, Lagos, is scheduled to run through Wednesday, September 3oth, 2026 under the theme, “From Local Business to Global Market: Leveraging Digital Marketing for Business Growth.”

The training focused on the importance of using digital platforms and online marketing tools to promote products and services, attract customers and increase business visibility. The initiative reflects the state government’s continued efforts to promote digital inclusion and empower residents with skills that can improve their economic opportunities and participation in the digital economy.

During the training session, participants were introduced to various aspects of digital marketing, including the use of social media platforms for business promotion, creating engaging content, reaching target audiences online, building a business brand and converting online visibility into sales.

Speaking at the event, The Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada said technology has expanded the marketplace, noting that businesses are no longer limited to their immediate surroundings but can now reach customers across Lagos, Nigeria and the global market.

She explained that digital marketing provides opportunities for market women and men, artisans, SMEs and young adults to promote their products and services, reach new customers and grow their businesses, regardless of whether they operate in fashion, food, beauty, agriculture, crafts, retail or other services.

The Commissioner stressed that digital marketing goes beyond posting pictures online, as it involves understanding customers, creating quality content and effectively using digital platforms to promote businesses.

“Digital marketing is more than posting pictures online. It involves understanding your customers, creating good content and using digital platforms effectively,” she said.

Dada added that the Lagos State Government recognises the contributions of market women and men, SMEs, young adults and artisans to the state’s economy, assuring that the Ministry of Human Affairs and Poverty Alleviation would continue to support programmes that provide useful skills and knowledge to residents.

She urged participants to actively engage in the three-day training, ask questions and apply the knowledge acquired to their businesses, expressing confidence that the programme would improve their visibility, customer reach and business opportunities.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo emphasised the importance of digital skills in today’s business environment and encouraged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunities provided through the training and the devices.

“Take the skills acquired here beyond these few days, apply them deliberately in your businesses and use them to grow your customer base and increase your income,” the Permanent Secretary urged participants.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the training would help them understand how to use digital platforms more effectively to promote their businesses and reach a wider customer base.

The training also highlighted the increasing relevance of digital literacy and technology-driven entrepreneurship in creating economic opportunities, particularly for young people, artisans, traders and small business owners.

With more businesses moving their operations and marketing activities online, initiatives that provide digital skills, access to technology and practical business knowledge are increasingly becoming important tools for empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening participation in the digital economy.

The Lagos State Government’s digital marketing training and Android phone distribution therefore represent an effort to bridge the digital gap among residents while providing beneficiaries with resources they can use to improve their businesses and livelihoods.

The beneficiaries are expected to apply the skills acquired from the training to strengthen their online presence, promote their products and services, engage customers and explore new markets through digital platforms.
