A Lagos-based security operative, Adebanjo Samuel, has earned widespread commendation for demonstrating exceptional honesty after returning a customer’s misplaced $9,100 while on duty at a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) branch in Marina, Lagos.

The incident occurred on May 25, 2026, and was confirmed in a statement issued by Proton Security Service Limited on Tuesday.

According to the company, Adebanjo’s action has reinforced public confidence in the professionalism, discipline, and integrity of security personnel deployed across its client locations.

The firm announced plans to honour the operative with a special civic reception at its corporate headquarters in recognition of his exemplary conduct.

The event is expected to bring together colleagues, family members, friends, industry stakeholders, and media representatives to celebrate what the company described as a remarkable act of honesty.

Speaking on the development, Managing Director of Proton Security Service Limited, Odebunmi Adekunmi, described Adebanjo’s conduct as a proud moment for the organisation and a reflection of its core values.

“This act of honesty reflects the principles upon which our organisation was built and the standards we expect from every member of our workforce,” Adekunmi said.

He added that the operative’s decision demonstrated that professionalism goes beyond routine duties and includes making ethical choices even when no one is watching.

“Adebanjo has brought honour to himself, his family, our organisation, and the security profession as a whole,” he stated.

Reacting to the recognition, Adebanjo said his decision was guided by personal values rather than the amount of money involved.

“It is not about the amount; it is about the principle. I was raised to be truthful and to do what is right irrespective of the circumstances. Even if the money had been much more, I would still have returned it,” he said.

The security operative expressed gratitude to his employer for instilling values of integrity and professionalism among its workforce.

He noted that the recognition would encourage him to remain committed to doing what is right and hoped his experience would inspire others to uphold honesty regardless of the situation.

Also speaking, the Director of Business Development and Strategy at Proton Security Service Limited, Olabisi Familusi, said the organisation remains committed to maintaining high ethical standards.

Familusi noted that Adebanjo’s action reflects the trust and professionalism that define the company’s operations and contributes positively to the reputation of Nigeria’s private security industry.

According to her, the gesture sends a powerful message that integrity remains a valuable virtue and can serve as an inspiration to young Nigerians.

She added that Adebanjo’s conduct stands as a testament to the enduring importance of character, stressing that integrity ultimately defines a person’s legacy.
