Meta-owned social media platform Instagram experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users across the world unable to access their accounts.
According to outage-tracking platform Downdetector, reports of disruptions began rising at about 10:10 p.m., with more than 8,100 users reporting issues at the peak of the incident.
Users attempting to access the platform were reportedly met with “5xx Server Error” messages, indicating server-side technical problems.
In the United States, reports of difficulties began increasing around 4:55 p.m. Eastern Time, with users complaining of login failures and inability to refresh feeds or access the app.
The disruption triggered reactions across rival platform X, where users confirmed they were also affected and expressed frustration over the recurring nature of Instagram outages.
Some users described the situation as disruptive to work and daily activity, while others noted that similar outages had become increasingly frequent in recent weeks.
Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage as of the time of filing this report.
The incident comes days after a similar disruption affected Facebook and Instagram, which temporarily locked users out of their accounts and impacted services including Messenger.
That earlier outage also affected millions globally, raising concerns about the stability of Meta’s platforms.
