OGUN GOVERNMENT URGES RESIDENTS TO PROTECT GRASSROOTS INFRASTRUCTURE

The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, has urged residents to protect and maintain public infrastructure provided by the government to improve living conditions at the grassroots.
Hamzat, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Rotimiolu Akinlesi, made the call during the commissioning of several development projects executed by the administration of the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government Area, Dr Olusola Akinbode.
The projects included a newly constructed and equipped Primary Health Centre and a motorised borehole at Igbokofi, Emado in Ayetoro; Atokun Kara Market in Saala-Orile; a block of three classrooms equipped with desks, chairs and other facilities at Igan-Alade; and the renovation of a four-classroom block at Ebute-Igboiro.
Other projects comprised the renovation of the Yewa North Local Government multipurpose town hall and Osoba Shopping Complex in Ayetoro, construction of 10 lock-up shops at Igbogila, provision of office equipment, installation of solar lights across the 11 wards and construction of a perimeter fence around the local government secretariat.
Hamzat commended the local government administration for complementing the state government’s development agenda but urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance.
He said government infrastructure could only achieve its intended purpose when communities protected and used it responsibly.
“We urge the people of Yewa North to use these facilities judiciously and ensure that they are properly maintained. Development is a collective responsibility, and the people must support the government by protecting public infrastructure,” he said.
The commissioner also urged residents to maintain the peaceful coexistence in the council and assured them of the state government’s continued support under its “Building Our Future Together” agenda.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremonies, Akinbode said the projects were designed to complement the state government’s efforts and bring meaningful development closer to residents.
He said his administration remained committed to improving access to basic social amenities and enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
Akinbode assured residents that all 11 wards in the local government would benefit from more development projects before the end of his administration.
He added that the projects were also expected to boost economic activities by creating better opportunities for traders, artisans, farmers and other residents.
Community leaders and other stakeholders at the commissioning venues commended the local government chairman for the interventions, describing them as evidence of the impact grassroots-focused governance could have on communities.
The APC Chairman in the local government, Chief Gabriel Adeosun, also praised the renovation of the shopping complex and town hall, noting that the projects would improve commercial activities and provide a better environment for traders and other users.
