OYO 2027: ADELABU DROPS GOVERNORSHIP AMBITION, SEEKS RECONCILIATION

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has withdrawn from the 2027 Oyo State governorship race after losing the All Progressives Congress ticket, while calling for reconciliation within the party.
Adelabu announced his decision in a statement he personally signed on Thursday, titled, “APC Nomination Process in Oyo State: Closing the Contest, Not Conceding the Injustice.”
The former minister clarified that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an acceptance of what he described as the injustice surrounding the APC governorship primary.
He explained that the decision followed careful reflection and a strategic review of recent developments within the party, as well as the political journey ahead.
Adelabu said he had taken a brief vacation outside the country after what he described as the intensity and challenges of the past few months before returning to consult with party leaders and supporters.
He said that upon his return, he held meetings with party leaders and supporters across Oyo State to review concerns raised by members, aspirants and other stakeholders.
According to him, the concerns were not limited to the governorship primary but also extended to the party’s nominations for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
Adelabu said the stakeholders agreed that the failure to publicly declare and verify the results of the primary had raised serious questions about the transparency, credibility and integrity of the nomination process.
He added that documentary evidence, authenticated collation records and video footage were available and, in their assessment, raised significant questions about aspects of the process and its eventual outcome.
