Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has blamed the club’s participation in the 2025 Club World Cup for its disappointing, trophyless campaign.

Perez made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Monday, saying the tournament disrupted the team’s preparations for the season.

According to him, taking part in the competition denied the players a proper preseason, which ultimately affected their performance and contributed to a series of injury setbacks.

“The Club World Cup ruined our season,” Perez said.

“We had no preseason, and within three months we suffered 28 injuries.

“It has been a learning experience. I want us to compete in the Club World Cup, but not at the expense of sacrificing an entire season.”

The disappointing run means Real Madrid have now gone two straight seasons without winning silverware, with the club reportedly set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager this summer.
