The distribution exercise was flagged off on Monday at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

The governor described the initiative as a practical investment in both learners and the structures supporting their education. He noted that school support and mobilisation officers serve as an important link between schools, families and communities.

According to him, the officers play a key role in identifying children who are out of school, encouraging enrolment and retention, and ensuring that every child has access to education.

Makinde said providing motorcycles would enable the officers to reach communities more quickly and perform their duties more efficiently.

On the distribution of 72,000 notebooks, the governor said providing basic learning materials would improve pupils’ participation in classroom activities and contribute to better learning conditions.

He noted that the initiative, implemented under the BESDA AF-TESS programme, complements the state government’s broader efforts, alongside its partners, to strengthen basic education and improve learning outcomes.

Makinde urged the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles responsibly and strictly for official assignments, stressing that the vehicles are public assets entrusted to them to serve communities.

He also called on school authorities, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the officers and ensure that the intervention benefits children who need it most.

The governor urged pupils to make proper use of the learning materials, attend school regularly and remain committed to their studies, stressing that education is crucial to their future and the continued development of Oyo State.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Suraj Tiamiy, said the initiative would strengthen the relationship between schools and communities, improve enrolment and attendance, and help officers identify and return out-of-school children to the classroom.

He added that the distribution of notebooks would also enhance pupils’ participation in classroom activities.

The event was attended by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Segun Olayiwola; Chairperson of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Olubukola Oladipo; Executive Assistant to the Governor on BESDA, Olatoye Olusina; and other government officials.
