Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has undergone successful surgery for a fractured jaw following a heavy collision during the club’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the second half at Hill Dickinson Stadium when Martínez rushed off his line to punch away a free-kick but collided heavily with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite before collapsing to the ground.

Medical personnel attended to the Argentine goalkeeper for nearly 10 minutes on the pitch, administering oxygen and placing a neck brace around him before he was stretchered off to applause from supporters of both teams.

Young goalkeeper Mike Penders replaced Martínez and helped Chelsea maintain their clean sheet as the Blues secured three valuable points.

In a post shared on X on Sunday by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Martínez was quoted as saying: “The most important things are 3 points and clean sheet. I’ll be back in few weeks!”

Despite the seriousness of the injury, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper appeared focused on Chelsea’s victory and defensive performance, expressing confidence in his return to action.

For now, Martínez’s priority remains recovery following the successful surgery, with the goalkeeper hopeful of returning to the pitch in the coming weeks.
