MEXICAN INFLUENCER KILLED WHILE LIVESTREAMING

Mexican social media influencer César Gastélum has been shot dead while livestreaming outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa State.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the Tres Ríos area, where Gastélum was filming with two friends when two men on a motorcycle approached them. One of the attackers reportedly opened fire at close range, killing the influencer.
Gastélum, who had more than 500,000 followers on TikTok, was widely known for his comedy content.
Local reports said the victim and his companions were wearing orange jackets and carrying bags typically used by delivery riders, initially leading investigators to believe he was a delivery worker before his identity was confirmed.
Security personnel and forensic experts later secured the area, collecting spent shell casings and reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation. The attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle, and no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
Authorities have not indicated whether Gastélum had received threats before the attack.
On social media, Gastélum regularly shared photos of his travels, luxury cars and lifestyle. One of his posts showed him visiting the grave of fellow influencer Leobardo Aispuro, popularly known as “El Gordo Peruci,” who was shot dead in December 2024 in a killing believed to be linked to rivalry within the Sinaloa cartel.
Gastélum’s death is the latest in a series of attacks targeting social media personalities in Mexico. In 2025, 23-year-old influencer Valeria Márquez was also killed while livestreaming from a beauty salon on TikTok.
The latest killing comes amid escalating violence in Sinaloa State, where clashes between the rival Los Chapitos and La Mayiza factions of the Sinaloa cartel have intensified since September 2024.
