Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has paid an emotional tribute to her late colleague, Alex Ekubo, remembering him as a vibrant, witty, and generous personality whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone around him.

Speaking during a service of songs held in honour of the late actor, Isime reflected on his humour, warmth, and larger-than-life personality, describing him as someone who effortlessly brought laughter and joy both on and off the screen.

Sharing fond memories of their friendship, the actress recalled one of Ekubo’s most memorable traits his playful teasing and quick wit.

“And one thing nobody has really mentioned here is his bad mouth. Alex had bad mouth,” she joked, drawing laughter from those present.

According to her, the late actor had a unique way of creating funny nicknames for friends and never missed an opportunity to engage in light-hearted banter.

She recounted how Ekubo constantly referred to her as “old 20 naira,” a nickname he continued to use regardless of how much her career evolved.

“He used to call me old 20 naira, the oldest. Even when I started making money and looking new, he would still say, ‘No, you are still old 20 naira,’” she said.

Nancy explained that his teasing was never hurtful but reflected his energetic personality and natural ability to entertain those around him.

She added that once cameras appeared, everyone anticipated one of Alex’s trademark humorous remarks.

“Once you put a camera on his face, you must make sure he yabs you. And you can never out-yab Alex. Never,” she said.

Beyond his humour, Isime described the late actor as someone with remarkable generosity and a genuine willingness to support others.

“He had the biggest heart. He loved to give. Even if the only thing he could give you was the meat in his food, he would give it to you,” she recalled.

She noted that even in moments of sacrifice, Ekubo had a way of turning situations into joyful memories through laughter and kindness.

Reflecting on his career, Nancy praised his contributions to Nollywood and described him as one of the industry’s most recognisable and admired actors.

“Alex was a big part of Nollywood. He came and he dominated. His performances are something to always look forward to,” she said.

Family members, colleagues, friends, and admirers have continued to celebrate the late actor’s life and legacy, remembering him not only for his achievements in film but also for the warmth, humour, and positive energy he shared with those around him.

The tribute highlighted the lasting influence Alex Ekubo had within Nigeria’s entertainment industry and the memories he created throughout his life and career.
