NSA: MILITARY COOPERATION WITH US STRENGTHENING NIGERIA’S FIGHT AGAINST INSECURITY

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has said that Nigeria’s security collaboration with the United States has yielded measurable operational gains, significantly strengthening the country’s counter-terrorism efforts.
Ribadu made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja at the inauguration of the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group, where he commended the depth and impact of bilateral military and security cooperation between both countries.
“I would like to formally place on record Nigeria’s appreciation for the quality and effectiveness of US–Nigeria military and security cooperation. Since the engagements of November 2025, this partnership has translated into tangible operational gains,” he said.
According to the NSA, the collaboration has enhanced intelligence sharing, improved coordination between the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) and Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, and deepened sustained engagement across the nation’s security institutions.
He noted that these developments have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s counter-terrorism posture and situational awareness across multiple operational theatres.

Ribadu added that the partnership has moved beyond dialogue to concrete action, supporting improved target identification, greater operational precision, and strengthened joint planning. He said the cooperation has enabled more effective disruption of terrorist networks and transnational criminal groups.
“These efforts have resulted in the neutralisation of numerous terrorists, the destruction of logistics hubs, and the interception of key facilitators and logisticians,” he said.
The NSA also commended the United States for its commitment to the timely delivery of critical military assets, including drones, helicopters, operational platforms, spare parts, and related support systems procured over the past five years.
He stressed that the cooperation has been carried out with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, within agreed frameworks, and with a strong emphasis on joint operations, accountability, and the protection of civilians.
