The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 36-year-old suspect over alleged involvement in receiving and dealing in suspected stolen items in Benin City.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbebor Efosa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the arrest followed credible intelligence received on June 5, 2026, regarding individuals allegedly trading in stolen materials within the state capital.

Acting on the intelligence, the Command’s Tracking Unit under the Intelligence and Investigation Department carried out an operation that led to the arrest of Ibrahim Ismail of Obakawaye Street, Benin City, who is reportedly engaged in scavenging activities.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly purchased aluminium windows from unidentified persons. It further noted that during interrogation, he admitted to obtaining such items from unknown individuals.

Further findings also indicated that the suspect had purchased electric copper wire for ₦30,000, part of which was allegedly burnt for processing.

The State Commandant, Commandant Akintayo Ayinla, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to tackling criminal activities in Edo State, stating that intelligence-led operations would continue to be deployed to flush out criminal elements.

He added that investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the case, after which the suspect would be charged to court.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state.
