TWO KILLED, PROPERTIES DESTROYED AS STORM HITS BAUCHI COMMUNITY

Two persons have been confirmed dead following a heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds that ravaged Bara community in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the tragic event occurred on June 10, 2026, when a downpour accompanied by a severe windstorm hit the area, leading to loss of lives and widespread destruction.
Preliminary reports indicated that the storm destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira.
The statement added that operatives of the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters visited the affected community to assess the level of damage and ensure the maintenance of law and order.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kirfi Local Government Area over the tragedy.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and urged residents to remain strong in the face of the natural disaster.
The police command further assured of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to support disaster response efforts and safeguard lives and property across the state.
Residents were also advised to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies for swift intervention.
